Originally from Montgomery County Maryland, UMBC is excited to have Murteza back as Team Medic with the Retriever’s Ice Hockey Program. He works on a personal basis with the Ice Hockey players in the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries on a continuous basis throughout the entire season. “You’re treating a person, an athlete, not merely an injury”, is the philosophy Murteza likes to go by. “Assisting in a student-athlete’s recovery from an injury and watching him perform to the best of their ability is the most rewarding part of the job”, he says.
Prior to joining the UMBC Hockey Staff, Murteza gained valuable experience in Emergency Healthcare from several years of work at the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital's Emergency Department in Rockville, Maryland and as a volunteer at Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department in Baltimore County, Maryland.
In 2007 Murteza received an honors interdisciplinary studies degree in "Issues in Emergency Healthcare" from UMBC. He is currently working on a graduate degree at UMBC and works as a tutor in the areas of biology, chemistry, physics and standardized test preparation for Life Long Knowledge Tutoring (www.llkts.com).
