David grew up in Buffalo, NY and was the former time/scorekeeper and management assistant for Performax Hockey Systems in Western New York, helping to run various youth and adult hockey invitational tournaments.
 
From there he moved into play-by-play and color commentating with WMCE Mercyhurts Radio and HurstTV Chanel 19 for the Mercyhurt College NCAA Division I and ACHA Men's hockey teams.  He continues to work with HurstTV as the co-host for the Hockey Week in Review in Erie, PA (http://hockeyweek.blogspot.com).  He has also hosted an online podcast, "Hockey Rant with David Stearns" for the last 2 and half years (http://nhlhockeyrant.blogspot.com).
